Catalina Island Advanced Backpack Trip (2024)

Description

Due to the logistics and planning needed, all scouts must be signed up and paid prior to 12/31.  This trip is for our intermediate/advanced backpackers only, so please, if you don’t meet the requirements, don’t sign up.  Please see my troop emails for more information on who qualifies.  Also, please note there are no refunds.  To qualify for this trip you must have either participated in 2 or more intermediate backpacking trips (and demonstrated your abilities) with 355 or have attended Philmont.

This trip will be taking us along the scenic Trans Catalina Trail (TCT) with the following campground stops:

• Hermit Gulch
• Blackjack
• Little Harbor
• Two Harbors

Here is the itinerary:

Day 1 – Friday (1 Miles):

• Depart Long Beach on Friday 2/16 @ 2pm
• Arrive Avalon approx 3pm
• Set up camp at Hermit gulch.
• Grab tacos for dinner @ Sand trap restaurant
• Camp at Hermit Gulch

• Eat Trail breakfast/packup
• Head to Blackjack campground
• Our toughest day with lots of elevation gain and loss as we traverse the island
• Set up camp and enjoy a trail dinner at Blackjack

• Packup camp
• Head to “Airport in the Sky” for Breakfast burritos at the DC-3 Grill
• Grab a To-go lunch from DC-3 to eat later in the day
• Make our way over to Little Harbor/Shark Harbor
• Set up camp and enjoy a trail dinner on the beach

• Eat Trail breakfast/packup
• Head to Two Harbors
• Grab a snack in Two Harbors and a hot shower if you feel inclined
• Hop on the Catalina Express @ 11:45am
• Fin!
