San Gabriel Mountains 20-Mile Hike – Click for Details
March 16, 2014 @ 7:00 am - 4:00 pm
Trailhead: Corner of N Lake Ave and E Loma Alta Dr.
Troop 355 will hike from Pasadena to the front range of the San Gabriel Mountains. The hike will take us to the top of San Gabriel Peak, elevation 6,161 feet, the highest point in the front range. San Gabriel Peak with its 360 degree views and the historic, oak-shaded Mount Lowe East Trail are popular destinations, but we will distinguish ourselves by our approach from Pasadena rather than the Angeles Crest Highway.
The elevation gain of 1,300 feet per 2.5 miles is comparable to the gain of 1,400 feet on the 2.5 mile trail to the top of Echo Mountain. The most challenging part of this hike will be the 10 mile downhill back to the trailhead. We will change socks before the downhill descent to ease the wear on our feet.
Bring an extra pair of socks, 4 liters of water, lunch, and high carbohydrate snacks consisting of approximately 2,000 calories.
This hike is challenging and suitable for adults and Boy Scouts in good physical condition that completed a previous troop hike of 10 miles.
Please contact Mr. Laudeman if you are planning to participate.
