June 11, 2017 @ 9:00 am - 4:00 pm
Hello Troop 355,
My name is Nick Yeh and I am currently a rising senior at St. Francis High School and a member of the Sharks patrol. I will be holding my eagle project this coming weekend of June 10th-11th at the Boys and Girls Club of the Foothills. The Boys and Girls Club of the Foothills is an organization aimed at enabling underprivileged youth to reach their full potential in becoming responsible and productive citizens. They provide after-school educational and recreational programs which serve to empower youth in the local community.
Here are the important details:
Beneficiary: Boys and Girls Club of the Foothills
Where: Mary Wilcox Youth Center (843 East Olive Avenue Monrovia, CA 91016). If you have trouble finding us, please contact me when you get there and I can direct you.
When: Saturday June 10th (9 AM to 5 PM) and Sunday June 11th (9 AM to 4 PM if necessary). Food, snacks, and drinks will be provided.
What: We will be building two hydroponic systems that will hold organic vegetables. One of them will be for the Boys and Girls Club, the other will be for a local food pantry. In case you are wondering what hydroponics is, here is a link which explains everything: http://www.growthtechnology.com/growtorial/what-is-hydroponic-growing/
The purpose of my project will be to not only provide vegetables to the club and a local food pantry, but also to inspire a sense of community service and self-sustainment in the youth at the club.
What to bring: Power tools (if you have any), work clothes, work gloves, and closed toed shoes.
This is a great opportunity to gain service hours (for both rank advancements and for school requirements) and to learn about sustainable methods of growing food.
If you plan on participating, please contact me in advance so I can plan accordingly.
Thank you for your time and I look forward to seeing you there! Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Nick Yeh
