TROOP 355 PHILMONT SHAKEDOWN AND INTERMEDIATE BACKPACK TRIP
LOS PADRES NATIONAL FOREST
WHEN: Saturday, June 27 to Sunday, June 28, 2015
WHERE: Cedar Creek Trailhead to Fishbowls Trail Camp in the Los Padres National Forest. The trail and camp are in the Sespe Wilderness and managed by the Los Pinos Ranger District of the Los Padres National Forest. There is a swimming hole at camp!
DIFFICULTY: This hike is 5.4 miles each way on the Cedar Creek Trail with over 1,200 feet of elevation gain and loss each way. This is a moderately difficult hike.
AVAILABILITY: This is the final backbacking shakedown for Philmont 2015, and the Philmont trekkers would like to invite other veteran Troop 355 backpackers to join them. This trip is for experienced Troop 355 backpackers. It is not a good trip for first time backpackers. We will have an introductory backpack trip in September. This trip to Fishbowls is an excellent opportunity to prepare for Philmont this summer and for other Troop 355 scouts and dads who have enjoyed backpacking with us in the past and would like to get more involved with our backpacking program, and who may be interested in attending Philmont in the future.
COST: $10 per person. Deadline to confirm your spot is Monday night, June 22. Please mail or deliver your check made out to BSA Troop 355 to:
2280 Adair Street
San Marino, CA 91108
TRIP SCHEDULE: We will meet at Scout House early Saturday morning to divide troop gear and food, then depart for the Los Padres. The trip to the trailhead is about 2¼ hours. We will return to the trailhead Sunday about noon and should be home by 3:00 PM.
MEALS: The troop will provide a Philmont-style dinner for Saturday evening. Bring your own trail lunch for Saturday and breakfast for Sunday. Eat a big breakfast on Saturday morning before the trip.
Further information will be provided by email as we get closer to the trip.
