First Aid Signoff Session – Click for Details
July 11, 2016 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm
ASM Darryl Sivad has graciously offered to lead a First Aid Signoff Session this upcoming Monday, July 11, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at the Scout House. We will cover all the First Aid signoffs for the Tenderfoot, Second Class and First Class ranks. All scouts who need to complete these signoffs are welcome and encouraged to attend. This is a great opportunity to get these signoffs all at once – it can take a long time to work through these bit by bit at campouts and at troop meetings.
We especially encourage our scouts who will be taking First Aid Merit Badge at Cherry Valley (or at Camp Trask) this summer to attend this signoff session. The first requirement of First Aid Merit Badge is to complete all these signoffs, so it will make it much easier to complete the merit badge if you obtain the required signoffs in advance. But it will also be very helpful for any other scout who needs these signoffs to get these completed – this will help you move towards your next rank advancement and free up time on your next campout to work on other things, or to just have fun. So if you are available on Monday, we hope all of you who need these signoffs can attend.
Please bring the following required items to the class session:
1. Your Scout Handbook and a pen – so your signoffs can be recorded. The session will be designed to cover the required signoffs for both handbooks our scouts are using – the 2016 Handbook that our new scouts have, plus the older handbook that our other scouts have.
2. Please print and staple pages 8-13 from the First Aid Merit Badge Worksheet – these pages list all the First Aid Signoffs for Tenderfoot, Second Class and First Class. You can fill out these pages as we go through the material – when you take the First Aid Merit Badge, it will be a great help to have these completed pages with you. The First Aid worksheet can be printed from the troop website (click Resources then Merit Badge Requirements), or from the following link: First-Aid
3. Please prepare and bring a small personal First Aid kit; this is a requirement for the Tenderfoot signoffs. It does not have to be large, just a few items that you would take with you on a hike or troop outing, in case of blisters, cuts, headaches, etc. Your personal first aid kit is also required gear for Cherry Valley, and all your future campouts. These kits are readily available at outdoor stores like REI, or at pharmacies, or you can prepare your own – putting the proper materials in a ziplock bag would be fine. If you do purchase a commercial first aid kit, you should customize it to suit your particular needs (put in your preferred headache medicine, add moleskin, etc.).
I would also ask that you come prepared to give Mr. Sivad and any assistants your best attention – we will have a lot of material to cover; if everyone is prepared and pays attention, we should be able to complete all the required signoffs.
It would be great if a couple of senior scouts could assist Mr. Sivad in demonstrating some of the first aid techniques and help sign the handbooks – this would be a great leadership opportunity for those who are looking for one. Please let Mr. Moffat know if you would like to help on Monday.
No uniforms required, wear your Class B shirts if you have them.
