Description
Announcing the return of the Blue Angels campout on Friday, February 25 and Saturday, February 26 at the Naval Air Facility, El Centro, CA
Friday Night Activities
The Imperial Valley Navy League is the host sponsor of this event. The Navy League is recommending that Scouts eat dinner before entering the base at this time. Due to Covid 19, it has not been determined if the Pizzeria Cafe and the Desert Lanes Bowling will be available to Scouts and visitors at this time.
We will be camping on a large open grass area. It can be windy and cold. Be Prepared! Use the Troop car camping checklist to make sure you have everything you will need. No fires are permitted but we will still have a spirit conference.
(Protip: Jet engines are loud and make it difficult to sleep. Bring ear plugs.)
Saturday Activities
This is one of the most favorite campouts for many 355 Scouts. The morning starts early with the sound of jet engines preparing for the day. Scouts will eat breakfast with the Blue Angels and their flight crew on the flight line. Following this, the boys will view these same pilots perform amazing tactical air maneuvers.
The schedule for the day is as follows:
* 6:15 am Breakfast with the Blue Angels and flight crew
* 8:00 am Flight Training
* 9:30 am Go Cart Races
* 11:30 am Pollo/Asada BBQ
* 1:00 pm Flight Training
* 2:30 pm Crowd line autograph signing
Dress Code
Scouts and adult Scout leaders are expected to wear Class A uniforms without sash. Casual attire is recommended for adult guests. Scouts are advised to bring a hat, sunglasses and a folding chair for the flight training air show. Be prepared for chilly weather in the morning and warm weather as the day goes on (layering).
Adult Registration
Each guest over the age of 18 is required to submit the Department of the Navy Base Access Pass Registration. The registration requires each guest to submit their Social Security Number. Any guest that refuses to provide their SSN will not be able to attend. See attachment.
The cost for this campout, breakfast, lunch and attendance at the Blue Angels flight training is $130 per person.
Base Access and Arrival Time
The attached map and directions were prepared by the sponsor of the event, the Imperial Valley Navy League. Dads that will be driving should print color copies of the map and follow the directions when arriving at the base. Mapquest and Waze are not accurate around El Centro, California. All dads must have a valid driver’s license or other state/federal identification to enter the naval facility. Drivers must show a valid driver’s license, current vehicle registration and valid vehicle insurance certificate. The Navy League requests that all visitors camping at the naval base arrive Friday evening between 5 and 7 pm and no later than 8 pm.
